Sunrise
Sunset
Growth
Change.
Sunrise
Sunset
Misery
Joy.
Sunrise
Sunset
Sometimes
As I lie alone
Staring into the shadowed corners
Full of terrors I’ve never known
Questions float just out of reach
Other times
They beseech
Me to answer
Answer
Answer
Answer.
But how can I obey,
When I cannot hear the words they say?
A question asked is easily answered,
But it must first be asked,
Before a response can be spurred.
And the questions already lingering in my mind,
Have taken years to find.
And they consume my thoughts,
Fill me up,
Split my seams with shoulds and oughts.
So the other questions
Happy ones mayhaps,
Cannot be spoken aloud.
Because a question unasked,
Remains forever in Schrödinger’s Box,
Alive and dead.
Yes and no.
True and false.
Sunrise,
Sunset.
Do we matter?
Any one of us?
Will anyone notice
When we turn to dust?
Yes
and no.
Ebb
and flow.
They will notice,
If you make yourself worth noticing.
Not all,
Not even those you might hope.
But some.
The trick
I’ve learned though long I’ve wisdom spurned
Is to notice for yourself,
Who’ll notice you.
Enough.
Just enough perhaps,
To make the morning worth looking forward to
Since it cannot be escaped.
Sunrise
Sunset.

Yes, totally agree! We gotta notice for ourselves who would notice us. Loved your poem so much!
Another poetic classic by Sir McEvoy!! I love the flow and chew of this piece (food for thought). The way you pose a question/ answer it but also play with the ideas around the answers! Very well done!! You do so well with stream of consciousness poetry!!
