Isn’t it sad

that some promises

can hold the weight of it all,

while others barely

hold value?

Promises are simply temporary,

the lyrics to a song.

Isn’t it weird that

the same person who said,

“forever”

can simply forget?

As though it were simply another

mundane task

to check off their list.

Isn’t it funny how

someone who once held your world,

can become a stranger

all the same?

An unrecognizable face

in an ever growing

yet all too familiar crowd.

And isn’t ironic that

these same hearts that break

know the patterns,

having been fooled all along;

Yet they memorize and

sing them

like the lyrics to a song.
