Luna in the Sky

Poem inspired by the lore of Bakunawa - Filipino God | Moon Eater, God of Earthquakes and Eclipses

I fell in love

With a Goddess

Who cannot love me back.

She’s up in the sky

And I’m bound below

Forever cursed to

Watch her wax and wane.

Oh, such an unbearable pain

To be on this human plane!

The night is always bright

From her silvery light.

I wish I could take flight

And embrace her tight.

Such desires I have

For the Goddess I love.

Luna, who cannot love me back.

Luna, please come back!

Her absence

Is more pronounced

When the night is dark.

But the stars don’t have the power

To pull us apart.

Luna, please hear my cries

As I stitch my heart into my lullabies.

I’ll forever admire you from afar

And bask in your glorious silver light.

I’ll be waiting here for you on Earth

And hope the mountains will reach the skies.

Luna my Goddess.

My one and only.

My heart belongs to you for all eternity.

This poem is inspired by the Filipino Mythology: Bakunawa.

Bakunawa is one of the minor Gods in Filipino Mythology. He is depicted as a giant sea serpent with a single horn on His nose, and He is wrapped around the world.

It is told that He causes earthquakes and eclipses.

It is also believed that Bakunawa is obsessively infatuated with the moon Goddess. Eventually, this obsession led to him devouring the Goddess whole.

I know. Filipino mythology is insanely colourful!
