Lovely Isabel

A Sonnet

By Rick Henry Christopher Published 4 months ago Updated 4 months ago 1 min read

I love you so, my lovely Isabel.

I’d give my life to see you rest in ease.

Sleep now, dear mom, may your spirit know peace.

Your voice still rings, a bright and gentle bell.

All of your life, your mission was to give love.

Unselfishly, you offered all your time.

You gave and gave, and never asked a dime.

When your day comes, you’ll dance with light above.

I am your son, so many years gone by.

My body’s weary now; I need my rest.

I’ve given my time. I’ve given my best.

The road to my peace comes with your goodbye.

I know it will hurt, my heart it will test

When that day arrives I know I will cry

I had to look away from the screen. Sit back with my back against the wall... And... Just... Be sad for you. For her. If this is you having to take care of her, when you are tired and weary yourself... Oh this hurts the heart too much. Then her eyes are closed in the photo. I don't think I can cope now. This is far bigger than empathy. It's like you've just placed your life into my lap and I've got to sit here with it. I don't mind. But man! I am so sorry 🤗❤️

With so many losses in the last decade and even the last year, this one hit hard. So many people to look back on. This is a lovely tribute. 💙

This is so sweet, Rick. I hope that everything is OK. Having just lost my mother in July, I know how hard it is to have to let go to someone you love dearly. I can tell from this poem that you love your mother very much and know that rest will bring her peace, but I still hope that you will not go through too much pain. *hugs*

Awww, that is so lovely and heart-felt, Rick. I had to be a caregiver for a month and found it difficult, I can't even imagine how hard it is when all you do is caring for your mother. You are a hero.
