Love comes from an admiration of the soul
And like the rose it grows over time
And like the rose it has thorns
But what is a small prick now and again
With such a beautiful bloom?
People talk of love at first sight
But that isn't what love is
There can be that instant attraction
But if it were so lasting then
The divorce rate wouldn't be so high
And there wouldn't be so many people
With that hollow look in their eyes
Searching... yearning to be loved
But it isn't about being loved
And it isn't about finding someone
To attach yourself to, to worship
I don't care if she doesn't love me
I don't care if she sometimes is rude
Because just seeing her smiling face
Is enough to last me weeks, months, years
And just like the rose it has its seasons
And just like the rose it needs some care
But if loving her means I have to push her
But if loving her means I have to hurt her
Then I don't want to love her
...But I do want to love her
So I don't push my love from one side
I am content to just be with her
To have her light shine on me
And just like the rose I am growing
And just like the rose I am pulled by the sun
I will never hurt her
I will always be there for her
And just like the rose
It will always be sweet.
