Love's Twisted Truths

LTW, P10

By Abigail AsantePublished 5 years ago β€’ 1 min read

They'd said that Snow White was saved by true love's kiss.

This true love the fairytales are all about? It doesn't exist.

And if it did, I'd have to admit that at an early stage I'd been robbed of its innocence.

There are no Prince Charmings, there are no sweet rendezvous.

Simply poison apples, and wishes that I wish could come true.

Belle found her Prince, disguised as a monster, whereas I'd found monsters disguised as the ugly truths of whom I'd thought could be my prince.

Ariel gave up everything for this sick lie they call love, and in return I receive nothing but heartbreak, chest ache, and memories I've regretted ever since.

These fantasies that I constantly wish were my reality, are nothing but the painful, piercing pricks of the thorn that harmed Aurora, and THAT is to the very tee.

You see, the reality of it all is the tinkling water that showers my head, and the broken tears that fall.

Ursula's promises are nothing compared to the hideous lies twisted into beautiful truths that I'd been kissed into believing, relentlessly giving me hope for something I'd never been given.

But as I tear away from these dangerous fantasies, I learn the truth that I'd always wished I'd never have to see.

The truth of it all, is that the only monster, the only villain, amongst all these fairytales is..

ME.
