Love's Rejoice

from Dot the I's

By Chris Elliott Published 5 years ago 1 min read

As long as the ocean's angry waves crash on the edges of earth,

as long as the night sky's scattered stars fill the empty darkness,

as long as the winter's snow melts into the rivers of spring,

as long as the sand of time falls grain by grain,

long after I take my last breath –

when flower buds crawl forth from my earthly remains,

carrying with them my vitality,

my essence,

my soul –

my love for you will be with me.

As I sit here in the idle darkness of night,

I yearn to be filled by the richness of your voice,

to be rushed by the tenderness of your touch,

to be overcome by the glimmer in your eyes.

I know that with each slight movement of the clock's hands

your heart falls farther away.

I know that with the setting of the sun beneath the blanket of the sea

your thoughts of me are put to rest.

Trust my words

as you would trust that it is the earth that revolves around the sun,

that it is the falling leaves of autumn that follow the unrelenting heat of summer,

that it is the moon that illuminates earth's night sky.

I’m sorry.
