Love Poems
The minutes seem so short when I'm with you...
And if I'm sick with lust you're the cure.
But I'm afraid to do the things I want to do with you, and I'm hooked on you for sure..."
He said “Write something different.
You write too many love poems”
But what else would my notebook be full of
while my hair reeks of your cologne and my compromises.
Love poems are prayers and so I am a disciple renewing my devotion daily.
Seeking guidance in conviction through each biased syllable of praise.
Lover, lay down.
Let me baptize you in my best intentions.
Reborn to the solemnity of sinking slow into waiting arms
let me catch you.
Let me surrender to your glory in genuflection.
Wash me clean of doubts, worries or fears.
Drown out all memories of whoever came before you with your scent and linger there like a sweet epiphany.
Let each perfumed breath I take in your presence coat my throat like honey as I receive it.
Your lips meeting mine is what redemption tastes like.
God's smile reveals itself framed in your cheek bones and I believe again.
We are what heart looks like reincarnated as faith.
This will be the strength I fill my lungs with.
This will be what sustains me until we are but breaths ourselves
On the backs of our children’s conversations while they flip through old photo albums of us explaining to their children what love was once.
This is our legacy.
Our story made flesh and bone.
Our two halves made whole.
