In a group today the prompt given was: A letter arrives at the wrong address. For poets, explore the emotional weight or curiosity stirred by the letter, using imagery, fragments or repetition to capture the atmosphere of mystery, longing or mistaken intimacy.

A letter arrived today.
I was so excited
I don't often get letters
especially ones that start
out this way.
-=-
It started with
"My beautiful darling,
I miss you so much more
than I ever feared,
your smile
your eyes and the
way you tuck your
hair behind your ears.
-=-
The love in this poem
was so far from what
I hear as a norm.
It continued on in
it's type written form.
-=-
I miss you more than
words can say and
proceeded to tell me
about their walk in
the park on a wintry day.
-=-
The writer described the
children playing as if
they were describing their
very own child, the swings
newly painted, the birds
soaring in for bread, the
snowball fights and
the snow falling with all
it's might.
-=-
The writer then recalled a
time of love on a balcony
drinks and kisses, suddenly
this all seemed familiar to
me but how could that be this
letter was from a stranger to
me, but still very strangely
reminiscent as well, I
read on more and my heart
began to swell, for this
wasn't a letter to me from
some unknown love, I turned
the letter over and suddenly
felt very sober.
-=-
It was stamped with return
to sender alas the rest of
the type was torn away
but it became clear to me
this unopened letter had
been sent to her from me.
-=-
As it was unopened, I knew
she'd never read it. My heart
wished I had never received it
back, the love I had just finally
gotten over, fully restored my
heartbreak intact..
