Love bomb

“…the tik, tik, tik of love bombs.”

It was Sunday, sweet Sunday

I was washing the dishes when I heard it

I followed it’s sound to the door

It faded for a moment

So I turned away…

But then I heard it again

So I opened the door,

Then I saw it

Flying overhead, so quickly I almost missed it

It was like nothing I’d ever seen

And nothing I’d ever expected

I remember a quiet voice urging me to go back inside

But I couldn’t move…

I couldn’t look away

Silence suddenly surround me

Everything except it turned to faint white noise

It was worlds away in the sky

And yet it felt as though it was right next to me

Entangling itself between my fingers

Whispering in my ear

A strange, unfamiliar peace

Why did nothing else matter?

I opened my eyes I didn’t know I’d closed

Choked on a breath I didn’t know I was holding

Where did it go?

It was just there…

I didn’t dream it

Then suddenly, there was rubble

Everywhere

Black clouds, all around

Wasn’t the sky beautiful just a second ago?

That’s a fire, isn’t it?

But I’m cold

What’s that sound?

Shit!

I run back inside and into the kitchen

The sink is overflowing

The floor is wet

I force the tap shut…

It’s quiet.

Where am I?
