Love And Death Ladies None Can Resist

an RPG inspired poem

In all of our lives

there comes a time

We feel the warm hand of Love

though not equally in measure

She brings a smile and a sigh

Most listening

seek out her

birdsong call

Desiring the life long

shade of her tree

Singing the sweet

song of Shelyn’s beauty

Since love is something

none can resist

Yet somehow there are those

who let lesser

aspects and fools

direct their days

in the way they

should go

We see the madness

that ensues running

from her hues

like shades to their

shadowy home they seek

We all know

the inevitable exists

Death’s boneyard

for sorting

and judgement

of life's deeds and

accomplishments

Maddened souls

so eager to seek her

they will start

quarrel after quarrel

just to enjoy her

lofty advice and

exotic visage

With every passing pointless

conflict the more

unfortunates to run

the risk of being deemed

ugly through and through

Losing access to Shelyn’s

loving light

Running headlong

for the calculating scales

of Pharasma’s might

A wicked cycle repeated

over and over

shrouding us now

The only way to break

the chains of despair

Spreading beauty

choosing love

making room in

your hearts for those who

have no one

Spread beauty and love

to where there is none

Find your neighbor

extend to them your hand

Let the love flow free

pray for your fellow man

We all go where we deserve

in the end

No need to race each other

round that bend

Since love and death are

ladies none dare resist

Treat each other with care

until you reach

the yard of bones

Instead lets open up our hearts

our minds

our hands

to any and all

That is how love grows

spreads the whole world over

Let us raise our

voice up high

in mourning and remembrance

in love and alliance

Now take their heart

inside your hands

protect it

understand its ways

be the one

another can rely on

The shoulder to cry on

and the hand

to help them right the ship

if they should start to

take water on

When our dreams should come true

I want to dream them with all of you

you honor me

with your camaraderie

your love

PRISM

This poem is slightly different from my usual fare, though I think we all can understand the concept of Love and Death personified, it has references to a particular game world. My other RPG stories are all set in the same world these “ladies” come from. This is why I used the pen name PRISM, all of my RPG songs and poetry are pen named PRISM.

As a bard PRISM has multiple perform skills which include perform oration, so with linguistics it makes poetry a really important part of a bards repertoire. This is one I wrote from the perspective of prism, who is a shelynite (neutral good love goddess) in game, at first INO for the in game benefits, but she moved into a highly religiously charged area, due to in game role play events from past campaigns. This very quickly changed what she was writing about, and her religious perspective, as a schism was actively playing out, and she was recording it in real time. I love taking my campaign notes in character, which gives each campaign a different tone and flair. The deities and skills mentioned above are from the TTRPG Pathfinder.

I have a link to a list and an explanation of their deity options, as well as a link to the perform skill usage just in case you are unfamiliar with any of the things I am referencing here. I also included a link to the Paizo website, where Pathfinder products can be legally purchased. Just because you can access the open game license doesn’t mean you don’t want a core rule book. We still use ours on a regular basis. (K.B. Silver)
