Love does no wrong
in the spreading of which,
the cost is nothing
so why O why does it feel so rare.
-
The love of which I speak
is not the burning passion,
nor the fierce devotion
saved for soul mates.
-
I speak of the general kind
the holding of doors,
the refusal to ignore
those in the hotel of the tarmac.
-
The checking in on colleagues
not judging with reckless abandon,
listening to others
and walking miles, in the shoes of strangers.
-
Not simply vacuous kindness
but love for our fellow humans,
we share a world, a small rock
floating in a sea of vastness.
-
So why not spread love
a smile costs nothing,
words of affirmation are free
reciprocation not expected.
-
So yes love does no wrong
to your neighbor,
or companions
but it makes the turning of the world,
-
O so sweeter.
