Lose: Angst

A poem

An old note of mine started

and ended with a title

an idea I lost:

To Avoid An Existential Crisis Never Do This.

But you can't avoid an existential crisis,

falling from the ladder to the moon

or into the black void, getting lost

perhaps in the black forest

and finding out

You will not last as long as the lychen

and long as the roots

of these unmovable giants.

And if you don't encounter angst

call it upon you

create your fallible moments, pray

for the earth to be shaken beneath your feet

stare at time, and struggle

to understand space.

If you don't get lost, lose yourself

and then find wonder and wandering

be master of wayfinding.

Let the pit of your guts burn

if it needs to burn.

Summon whatever inexistence

You need to recruit

to face your life in the mirroring of

an immense lake. Get lost,

get lost. Be afraid and know terror.

Then, if you can

close your eyes

open them

know that for now

You are here.
