Look in the River

An appeal

By John WelfordPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Look in the river

the water and its white foam.

Look at the riverbed

With its yellow rocks and dry grasses

And the river that is never going to flow again.

Look at the leaves in the trees that grow there

and the birds

that are just like us, hungry for bread.

You can't look at those birds any more

You can't look at your fingers any more because I am here.

You can't look where I am coming from any more.

I am here, and I am bigger than you, bigger than you think.

I am here, and I will always be bigger than you.

I will be larger than the sky, larger than you want me to be.

Please leave me alone.
