That person you are looking at deserves so much more from you
That's the one you are hurting
The one who needs your courage

And admire the beauty of the person staring back at you
She don't deserve your hate
Don't let her break

Make sure that person don’t cry forever
So, smile a little bigger
And let her know that things will get better
Just look in the mirror
Tell her that you are sorry, and forgive her
Give her some grace
Accept all of her mistakes and put a smile on her face
Just look in the mirror
So, that your vision can be a little clearer
Can you believe the self-pain she is receiving
She needs saving
Just look in the mirror
That person in the mirror need some self-loving
That why nothing else seems to be working
Keep her away from the self-hurting
Just look in the mirror
Give her the peace she really been wanting
Remind her that you really, do love her
That's the only way a positive change will occur
Just look in the mirror
And don’t give up on her
She has a job that she was created for
Once you know her value, I bet you start loving her a little more

If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.

Such beautiful work, Emily. I don't know what rock I've been living under so I apologize for being late to the party here. This was an emotional read for me. I've struggled with insecurity much of my life, but I can remember a time when I was most confident. I was three and I used to talk to myself in the mirror. Imaginative, full of life, and "pretty girl" came out of my mouth while I spoke. You have a new subscriber here. Keep up the beautiful poetics!
We often struggle with our self love, however, we should see ourselves like the reflection in the mirror, and judge not because we all know right from wrong. Well Done!!!
