Loneliness

Will I Forever be Trapped in a House Alone?

By Erich KassnerPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

All I could see was darkness.

I turned my head left and right, turning around to look behind me every so often. I could hear those footsteps; they were so close to me, yet so far.

Those voices and the laughter echoed through my ears, but I could not find the source.

The dark hallway had a torch hanging on the wall every so often, so that the darkness would vanish momentarily, but soon it came back like a dog to its owner.

I walked for what seemed like an eternity, till a door nearly hit me in the face. I opened the door, a bright light blinding my eyes. I stepped through, hoping to find the source of this light.

Those footsteps from before grew louder, the voices and laughter getting closer and closer. My mouth started to smile; I finally found the source. My pace quickened, and I was nearly running till something hit me, sending me to the ground.

I looked up, seeing a glass window. Standing, I looked through, and there was the source of all the noises.

A group of people, all friends, chatting away. I called, but no one looked my way; I banged on the glass, but to no avail.

I sank to the ground, realizing now, that I would forever be alone…
