Locust

I fell in love with a plague

I dreamt of you once again

Laying together in light blue sheets

Your eyes in my mind did not offend

They were only ever beautiful to me

I never asked you to leave

Then you Infected my mind

Leeching your way into my blood and skin

I find no reprieve

No relief from when you were mine

You were never really mine

Like the dying cattle

And the rotted fields of grain

Infested with insects and disease

Forgetting you is the battle

I choose to fight as hard as I could

Yet I open my eyes to see

Something I wish I never would

A locust rests by my head

Perched in the center of my pillow

It does not chirp, it does not sing

In my head are screams and bellowing

The locust with your name

Infecting my dreams and me
