Beauty and desire
Are not the same
Though they are
Friendly bedfellows
Who spend time together
Intertwined forms
Enjoying Sunday afternoons
Beauty is a matter
Of disinterested pleasure
Anything may be beautiful
There is nothing transactional
To be had
Desire demands possession
For true fulfillment
See ME
Touch ME
Let ME kiss YOU
From head to toe
And all the lush places
That lie in between
We may covet beauty
That elicits desire
Within ourselves, or
Desire’s pulse; beauty in absentia
Raw and ugly elements
May strike passion’s match
Without care for
Fire’s reach
Does transcendental beauty
Justify illicit eye gazing
In real life
Or does it merely shimmer
Across paper pages
Youth do not believe in either
Amidst old folks
Trusting glossy media
To tell them what’s what
They cannot know
For they have not yet
Fallen for the line
Of his shoulders
As he washes dishes
Or ached to kiss
The birthmark
Near the soft lines
Of her mouth
Years I have spent
Touching with my eyes
Longing to reach out
Those who cannot see
Beauty within themselves
Do not know
It still radiates outward
Pulling those worthy
Into orbit
I have suffered afflictions
Heart and body
Crying out for succour
Only their presence
May bring
Time softens
All sharp edges
But I wish
It would not dull
The serrations of
Desire’s teeth
Cutting bone
Rending flesh
Skin fades to parchment
Colour bleeds from
Formerly red lips
Falling from
Mouth’s pursing furrows
Have no fear
Such weak trivialities
Do not matter
Hot breath on your lover’s
Shadowed places
Lends beauty
By desire
Until its very last

Oh this was a heady mix of sensual and philosophical and so apt. touching with eyes is a great descriptor and those passionate lines were heated elegance! strong work, marie!
A beautiful...almost ...birds eye view on what beauty and desire leads to. How to see it, feel it. What stifles or distort them. I like the mention of or the zooming in of a man's shoulder line when he washes the dishes. I like the philosophical musing and the frustration worded — when youth trust glossy media to tell them whats what. I came away learning that the ones who spend the most time really looking are, photographers, writers, artists in general — the ones who can pave the way to gift us their eyes, so we too can see the beauty in ourselves and others. Not what the media choose to show. Fantastic work Aspen 🤗❤️
Ufff sweetie!!! This one glows with raw ache and wisdom!! You’ve made them lovers, rivals, and mirrors all at once.💖
