When I was a little girl,
I had dreams and goals,
Such as growing up to be a princess,
In a castle situated high upon the knolls.
***
Pure blue skies, white fluffy clouds,
As this princess gazes up at the full moon shining way up high,
Sending glitter and moonbeams down on me,
Protecting me from the witch’s evil eye.
***
I stand by my window,
Watching the river beside the castle flowing by,
Nourishing the greenery on its banks,
As two eagles fly through the sky.
***
The countryside surrounding my home,
Protecting me with its stark cliff-faces,
While pretty poppies fill the grassy fields,
Making the castle and surrounds my favourite places.
***
Life is full of dreams and magic,
As I roam through the countryside at will,
Waited on hand and foot,
As I watched the answers to my prayers fulfil.
***
But then I finish the final page of my story,
Remembering it didn’t go at all as planned,
Now it’s only through these worded pages,
That I get to experience a life so grand.
***
Didn’t live up to your dreams,
Then the next best thing to gain a look,
Into your hopes, wishes, dreams and loves,
Is to turn the front cover of your favourite book.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
