It’s Those Delightful Little Things

Little moments I live for

Life is nowhere near perfect,

Would we really want them to be,

It’s the little moments that mean so much more,

That makes life worth living, you’ll see.

***

I remember the day when you broke the window,

The devastation written on your face,

But boys will be boys,

And I had to turn away to hide the smile I couldn’t erase.

***

On another occasion I remember well the tears leaking from your eyes,

As you saw me walk onto that beach with my feet bare,

It turned all your worries to happiness,

And told my heart just how much you care.

***

There were days when you fretted,

And my words were your security charm,

Others when it was my turn to worry and stress,

But you’d reinforce that we’d never come to any harm.

***

I’d often look at the dent in my car,

Placed there in a moment of distraction,

I could never show you my ire,

And I surprised you with my reaction.

***

You see it’s all these little imperfect moments,

That causes my heart to swell in compassion,

It’s those delightful little memories,

That cause me to remember the imperfections life does ration.

***

Those glorious little moments that make life precious,

Not the perfect hours that bore me to tears,

But the effort that fell short or didn’t go as planned,

That are remembered fondly over the years.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
