Four Attitudes That Hold You Back

In the past I was so concerned with whether I was doing enough, worried that I was not good enough, or what would become of me.

For a while, I thought this made me virtuously eagle-eyed about potential hazards but I soon decided this constant worrying was making me tired. It was quite clear that life is unpredictable and no matter how hard I tried and stressed over it, it will not always turn out as I planned it. Worry is something you always have from which I got the feeling of relief.

There was also what could be best described as ‘complaining’. I used to lament over my fate, my surroundings, and even my body. Rather, I realized that whining used to make situations worse since it did not change the situation whatsoever. It only left me feeling more frustrated I said to myself. I understood that I have to take a stand on problems and stop blaming and apologizing.

Another thing that I had to prevent was ‘projecting’ where I was blaming others for all of my problems. In the past, I searched for causes other than personal ones when things were not going smoothly. Still, that attitude held me back. However, once I began to analyze my self behavior I was able to find the ways and means and gain from my experiences.

Another thing that I also did not do was compare myself to others. Some time ago, I gauged myself against success and the results were always terrible and demeaning. Now, I understand the concept of individuality and everyone has his or her own way of going through life. I have acquired the knowledge of how to recognize progress, listen to myself, and turn my attention to myself.

It is very important to emphasize that life is very short and I don’t want to have such negative attitudes anymore. Just mentioning the positive points, accepting the fact I am the one in control of my life and consequently, my decisions make me feel more complete.
