From Chasing Wealth to Finding Meaning
A Personal Journey to Fulfillment
For many years I ran after the physical things like money and fame thinking that these are the things that should make me happy.
However, over time I slowly and bitterly came to agony that none of these were satisfying, and filled my soul with disappointment. I thought that being with a lot of people and being in a company always is better, but in fact, it is not since many of them have the worst impact on me.
I discovered this the hard way as I understood that not all people who appear friendly to you are really friendly. Little by little I learned ways to distinguish those individuals who loved and wanted me to be with them and those who did not really want me around.
I realized as I grew up that all happiness is not attainable from objects or from material things. It is these things that define the meaning in life and not the complicated things that most of the time only cause additional headaches—like the sun, laughter, silence. This is when I decided not to care about other people’s opinions and focus on the things that give me joy in life.
It would however be important to note that even in the best of environments life has always been a little challenging. Of course, I met my fair share of adversities; however, I finally learned how to persevere.
I not only changed my attitude to challenges which I perceived as the road to development rather than the end of the road. Having such an outlook, not only did I have to face challenges but also have meaningful goals.
Today, I wake up with appreciation of both the good and bad events that happen in life. It is not the endeavour for success anymore, it is the appreciation of existence and meaningful relations; joy in tiny moments, hope in survival.
