Living in the Dark

A poem inspired by the song You Belong to Me

By Rasma RaistersPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

He left her as the sun was rising

and now she’ll never see,

another sunrise again,

not with tear-filled eyes -

no not her.

The tears all make it blurry,

the light hurts her eyes,

the salty tears taste so bitter.

Her days with him were gone,

no more songs to sing,

silent is her world,

nothing that gives her joy -

nothing that she used to like before.

Love went out the door,

she now lives for sunsets,

that bring the dark of night,

for the darkness,

can hide her sadness.

Each day a bit of her dies

and it makes her cry,

while her broken heart beats,

so mechanically.

She’s living in the dark,

without him,

he took the sunshine away

and left her in the rain.

She hoped the super glue would hold,

so her heart could mend,

then she could once again,

walk out into the sunshine and smile,

having survived another broken heart,

wishing she had never met him,

right from the start -

for now, still living in the dark.
