i tried to sell my soul to the devil
he just laughed
he put his hand on my shoulder
looked me in eye and said
"son i know you're hurting
but the answers you seek
are not here
what you think you want
is just another end
and believe me when i tell you
neither of us are finished"
i felt an unbridled warmth
emanate from his delicate
cloven touch
an odd other worldly warmth
strange yet familiar
like a forgotten flavour,
an old jumper retrieved from
the back of a drawer or cupboard
as he went on to say
"you only think you know
but you don't
you say you will
but you won't"
he took his hand from my shoulder
letting it drop tiresomely
to his side
i felt a tearing sadness
upon the relinquishing of his grip
it was my turn
to have him meet my gaze
so boldly i continued;
i was in the place
where fears are made not felt
seeing as i’ve come this far
and we’re both still here now
would you mind if i asked you a question?
"fuck Georgia"
he said as if reading my mind....
"even thinking about that place
is going out of your way
fuck peaches and fuck the south
fuckin rednecks play and pray
Ralph Macchio was a bit of smart arse
and probably still is to this day
no i don't have a Netflix account
who do you think taught Steve Vai to play?
i may be the antichrist
but i aint no thief
don’t matter what you were taught
or what you believe
i never got no sympathy…none
rock stars are full of shit
and Bob Dylan is a knob end!”
somewhat taken aback
i felt physically stunned
i never expected this level
of candor and cynicism
fallen angel my arse
the devil is human
just like you and me
puts his pants on
one leg at a time

Badass.
Maybe ‘the devil is human’ and god, well, just merciless god. Who really knows? We can make theories not knowing for sure, and when we will finally know, we won’t be able to tell anyone then. Life’s a tragedy. But do we really need to know that? If we knew, we would never write anything knew like your poem! Thanks for putting it to words.
