Little Wings

Tiny feet and softer cries,

Golden down and beaming eyes,

You came like sunshine in my hand,

A fleeting joy I didn’t plan.

You chirped for warmth, you danced for seed,

In every peep, a tender need.

You trusted me without a doubt,

And filled my days with love throughout.

But time is cruel and far too fast,

You couldn’t stay, you couldn’t last.

I watched the light begin to dim—

The world grew quiet, cold, and grim.

Now empty nests and silent air,

Still echoes of you everywhere.

I search for warmth in memory’s hue—

And whisper softly, “I miss you.”

Though you were small, you meant so much,

My little hearts I couldn’t clutch.

No feathers now beneath my palm—

Just quiet grief, and aching calm.
