There’s a cardinal at the window, she’s tapping on the pane
I wonder if it’s mama
Come to chat with me, today
There’s a chance it could be daddy
It’s been hanging round all day
Maybe he has some good advice, to pass along to me
I’ve heard, if cardinals visit you
Angels may be drawing near
Maybe they experience missing, in the same way that I do
I held a conversation with the cardinal on the drive
It chatted, while I hung a wreath
Like when they were alive
I had a little visitor, as I put out their favorite seed
I like to see them eating
Offering something that they need
I find comfort in believing
Those little birds are something more
Helps me when working through my grieving
Knowing they’re always here with me

This makes me think of two of my favorite songs from recent musicals: "For Good" from "Wicked" ("because I knew you I have been changed for good" is inscribed across the bottom of our son's tombstone) & "It's Quiet Uptown" from "Hamilton". Now you'll have me thinking of those I'm missing every time I see a cardinal (my wife & father-in-law's favorite bird).
Awww, this touched my heart so much!
I believe this too for I keep bird food just so cardinals come. My parents loved hummingbirds and cardinals.
I love this! Cardinals hold a place in my heart to and helps me work through my grief for my parents.
