Little blackbirds

Harvesting the little moments.

By Antoni De'LeonPublished 2 months ago 1 min read

Life often invites us to appreciate the little things

A harvesting of the the Small amidst the clamor

Like the Little blackbirds cheeping outside my window—

an angelic morning hymn interpreted in feathered threads.

I pause, hands empty, heart full, gathering peace

welcoming joy in the day, flowing outwards like falling petals.

Sunlight spills across the windowsill,

a golden calm that warms the bones.

Rain taps its quiet code on glass,

each drop a musical note, each pause a prayer.

I harvest the music between raindrops

as footsteps echo ghostly rhythms outside,

seeking shelter from the deluge

I savor the curl of steam from my teacup

hands warm, a shelter above my head

I harvest the good and not so good days

waltzing in-between the varied moments

intertwining myself betwixt the stitches

in the footprints of time...wondering

at the way shadows stretch like old stories

across the floorboards of my thoughts.

A child laughs, distant and bright,

a mother's soft voice imploring caution

a father's voice encouraging taking chances -

I harvest the comforting thought

of a friend always walking by my side

the scent of earth after rain—

these are my crops, my quiet yield,

sown in the soil of attention.

No grand feast, no trumpet call—

just the soft rustle of being alive.

I give thanks for the ordinary miracles:

the blackbird’s song, the sun’s slow rise,

the rain that reminds me to listen.

Quiet wonder, where blackbirds, sunlight,

and rain-soaked leaves gather

in a storybook moment.

This is a truly lovely meditation on finding peace in the small moments. You made the ordinary things sound so precious and warm. It’s a great reminder to slow down and notice.

A gentle, beautiful reminder that true richness is found in the quiet, harvested music of ordinary moments

The blackbirds, rain, and sunlight become beautifully layered metaphors for emotional weather. You capture the gentle interplay between nature and inner life with a softness that lingers.

I love blackbirds and this poem is simply beautiful.

  • This is so wonderfully beautiful, Antoni. Right when I saw the title “Little Blackbirds,” I knew I had to read it. You did such a great job putting together words that create such imagery of beauty and wonder. Of course you know about my writing of blackbirds. I have a song called “Little Blackbird” with a similar lyrical theme. https://youtu.be/8YwqGvfVsk0?si=XyDFnl9IspKq3aOo
