Every year, on the eve of the winter solstice
When the world is at it’s coldest
You can count on her to come home to visit
She does not come to sit
But instead, she’s pacing the floors
Looking for that which was once hers
She rises from her cold, hard bed
Getting brambles caught on her head
Passing through the frozen forest
From her cursed place of rest.
Beautiful Lina
Dreadful Lina
She will find what she attempts to find
And when she does, she won’t be so kind
Reaching deep into the heart
Of the man who tore hers apart
Choking him to death
She will take his breath
Until rigor has his body froze
Then, she can return to her peaceful doze
Inside the forgotten ground
Never to be disturbed by human sound

Public Service Announcement Refreshing air fills your lungs, 420 feet above the river. Inhale the sweet aroma of evergreen trees, and experience scents the wind brings to you. The cascading, rushing river renews life. Ravens and eagles soar, calling in joyous freedom, catching updrafts. Giant evergreen trees stack the hillsides or create river turns with their fallen branches. Some days, clouds of cumulus, stratus, or cirrus float above, shifting into animal shapes. Vaping or smoking sullies the clean air. Forbidden. Campfires, loud music, and alcohol drinking and partying destroy the serenity. Forbidden.

A Dart at Dusk
Seconds ago, the sullen sun set on the two of us… my exuberant furry companion and me. A fresh breeze embraces us, delivering welcome relief from the day’s oppressive heat. His typical stumbling and staggering along — apace with a sloth — has turned into trip-trapping, high-stepping, almost skipping along.
