Light Up the Sky
4th Of July we say a prayer, and light up our sky’s

Light Up the Sky
Not every fire is joy, you know
some burn slow in silence
names we carry, names we’ve lost
etched in folded absence
The sky tonight will blaze for them
those who stood, then fell
not for show, not for cheers
but for stories we still tell
I light one spark and bow my head
no anthem, just the air
they fought for more than flags and lines
they fought, and they were there
So if you see the sky go red
and think it’s all for fun
remember some still hold the weight
of daughters, brothers, sons
It’s pride, but it’s not loud or bright
it’s steady, deep and true
I light it up because they can’t
and I still do, for you

This is the way to celebrate Independance Day! Good job.
omg!! I'm sitting here trying not to cry. Your poem is beyond beautiful and reminds me of my BF Eddie who never made it home from Nam. I cry for my brother who contracted agent orange and died later from the cancer it caused. I cry for all those families who still visit the graves of the loved ones they lost. You should have gotten TS for this.
well written
