Light Falls
If a Soul You Ever Had

If a Soul You Ever Had
You watch the tragedy unfold
But refuse to intervene
Though it’s well within your power,
Then mock the man
Who takes the reins
At the most critical hour.
Who’s the fool?
Who’s the tool?
Who’s the real coward?
Who’s the zero?
Who’s the hero
When all the ground is soured?
One more stupid game.
One more stupid prize.
One more forgotten name.
One more pack of lies.
One more silly fad
That no one ever buys;
If a soul you ever had
You’d know there’s no demise.

Light Falls
Light falls
On dispersing dark
Where wind blows
And water ripples.
The so(u)l calls
For just one spark;
Where divinity sows,
The harvest triples.
<>
Solar seed,
Hidden well.
Ancient creed,
Secret spell.
<*>
Who was there
Till the bitter end?

Your greatest enemy
Happened to be
Your only friend.

Better to regret doing than not doing, probably.
There are those instances when you wish you had done something, reacted...but did not. Bodes regret. We have all been there. Then we abandon those who fought with us in the mud, regrettably hurting our own soul. lots to ponder here. Lovely poetry.
The repetition in this is resounding in its impact. Very good and very thought provoking!
The light in that picture is incredible. I'm curious about the poem because it seems religiously inspired at first but then I'm not so sure. Is it what we can learn from our enemies? Also, is divinity to same as God? As always, gets me thinking ...
Sounds like the ups and downs of friendship. Good job.
"Who’s the fool? Who’s the tool?" "One more stupid game. One more stupid prize." These lines reminded me of Halsey's 'The Other Girl' and Taylor Swift's 'Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince' respectively. "Your greatest enemy Happened to be Your only friend." And these lines happen to be my favourite! Loved your poems!
The last three lines of light falls is stunning. Great contrast for both, cannot pick one over the other
Loved that first one in particular. I both see it in others, but also in myself at times too.
Your first poem reminds me a bit of Leonard Cohen ‘cept he’d use If a soul you ever had as the chorus. But whereas the first poem is deeply cynical the second reads more like the elegy for a fool. Wonderful poetry like always, Rommi. I love and do not recognize the painting! Thanks for sharing it!
