As a young child
I splashed through puddles
With joyful abandon
Drops of water flying
Like scattered confetti
Shimmering prisms of glitter
In refracted light
With age came wisdom
Paces slowed, curiosity blossomed
I splashed less, reflected more
Gazed deeper
And found those same puddles
Ponds, lakes, streams
Brought new wonders
Each drop of water
A glistening diamond
Drawing my gaze in
Where beneath the water's
Sun-shadowed surface
Floating, dancing
Life drifted
Cells in slow motion
An elegant ballet of life
And there, deeper still
Within each simple cell
More water yet
A microscopic sea where
The machines of life
In quiet liquid suspended
