When I was a child,
I had many dreams
of unimaginable things,
like fighting space monsters
and riding dragons
amidst cowboys and Indians
fighting in wagons;
all fantastical realities
that only my eyes had seen.
If only I could have known
how life would be so mean.
Then, when I became a teen,
I had more dreams
of outlandish things,
like the rockstar lifestyle
and being knighted by kings
with my fingers crossed,
waiting for pigs to sprout wings.
All just a fictitious reality
far beyond my adolescent mentality
of what life would actually bring.
When I became a man
I put away my childish dreams
in trade for everyday things,
like always doing right
no matter what it brings,
with the best friends and family
and a love who wears my ring.
Even though I failed,
I already had a life
better than my wildest dreams.
