Life choices

Who do I want to be

By Michael Ellington Henry JamesPublished 4 years ago 2 min read
Choose a path and walk it confidently

I sit pondering whats to be

Stars shine on my past day

Past ways my youth led me

To a present where all dreams lay

So many roads taken to survive the dark

Climbed cliffs and stayed steps ahead of the dogs bark

Next steps i take

Baby steps across a frozen lake

tyrna make it back home for tots n stake

That rhyme was stupid

Never again make that mistake

Two different ways to go

Two different ways to lead

Too long sitting on hands n knees

Too far along to take it slow

Go back home and do what you promised

Lead your city back to a land of peace and honest

Get rid of the rot and mold thats sat in the floor for years

Replace it with fresh carpet and tile found at Northland Sears

Maybe start a fire in everyone's oven

get them moving get them going start their gears

The day when i make my city a haven

Stop years of pain they stay taking

become something out nothing

Is the day you'll see my tears.

I could lead my city

But I want to live my dreams

Push out books by the dozens

Like my pregnant wife in a hospital

Showing the docs all 7 of my childrens

Proud and accomplished like Barack at the capital

A weird transition I know

But do you know what its like to finally not be alone?

Have your own fam

A wife, son, daughter while being a first time dad

Sing once a year its our anniversary

Multiply the kids then they multiply by 3

Show my wife a whole new world

Take every opportunity to say i love you girl

Buy her the sea the beach the sunset for every night

No matter the cost whatever she likes

Now its the first of the month i paid all my bills

She wants everyone over so i pop out the grill

Sitting back watching everybody laugh n smile

Called into work

but imma stay for more than awhile

Maybe a couple years

Or even a few decades

Why would i leave?

This is everything i need

This is all i ever dreamed

I know who I was and where i came

I see who i can be and its nowhere the same

As a lil boy taking candy canes

From a 4th grade teacher tryna put him on game

Maybe i wont accomplish my dreams

Being on top of the world aint all its cooked up to be

Being successful aint easy as it seems

But nothin youll know until u do the damn thing

Take the steps needed to get moving

Forward always

Always forward

And maybe

I'll see the light at the end

Signaling the end of the road

I've started to tread
