Looking out on a cold, grey morning,
Yesterday the sun was shining,
Our lives, like the weather, go up and down,
So get your feet firmly planted on the ground.

I looked inside the minds of people playing devil,
Cleaned up all the ugliness that I found,
Too many people think about daily business,
Too many people don't care at all.

A man just left Chicago in his Learjet,
Won it last week in a poker game bet.
And he ain't got no worries, he ain't got no cares,
Wouldn't you know it, he's a millionaire.

Across the sea in China, there's a boy so thin,
Poke him with a stick and you can see the other end.
He ain't got no food, no roof on his head,
Wouldn't you know it, he's a beggar instead.

Man prides himself on knowledge, pretending he's so cool,
Thinks about the world like some power-hungry fool.
High in the mountains the birds fly round and round,
Anyone would think we're at peace with the world.

Rivers run slowly until they reach the sea,
Doesn't matter where they start, they end up in eternity.
Life is like a river running through the ground,
Ends up in a place where no bottom can be found.
**** // ****
Get your feet firmly planted on the ground,
Just like the sun, we're going round and round,
And we're sinking for the third time around,
Sinking for the third time around.

[Author's note: This was originally a song I wrote years ago. The words reflect the imbalance between nature and the world as we see it.
The first two verses reflect the hectic nature of our lives and the constant changes we face every day.
The next two look at the unfairness of wealth. Some people are rich, but others have nothing - not even a place to live.
The last two verses highlight humanity's blindness. The lack of concern often prevents us from seeing the harm caused to the environment. Despite all the chaos, nature endures. Rivers and seas flow from the mountains, continuing their steady journey to the ocean.
The final verse pleads for a sense of stability in the face of the realization that we are part of a larger world. Unfortunately, we are not doing a good job of protecting it.]
Till next time,
Calvin

A beautifully melancholic reflection on the imbalance between humanity and nature. The rhythmic flow reads like a forgotten song from the earth itself — wise, weary, and true. Calvin's verses echo both personal and planetary truths: that we rise and fall like the weather, and that while rivers flow with purpose, too often we drift without it.
Great words for today
Thank you, Calvin! I love your poem! It is so true! And very noticeable now in our world!
Your poem does read like a song… well said. We each need to help others however we’re able.
