Lie for Love

A Farewell Poem

My heart had tread waters

wavering doubts in hailstorms

To test the loyalty of a lover

who boasted of strong, shiny horns.

A mystic departure

took our journey to artful war.

We reigned by each other

with lustfully twisted thorns.

Our capsule was potent,

leaving us breathless in the sky

Like temporary tenants

drugging our veins in disguise.

Our pleasured brains stagnant

with little desire to fight

Temptations so malignant

for these addictive highs.

A different kind of surrender

each time the waves surged in,

Forgotten guilt grew fonder

of the passion for more sin.

Second chances felt colder

when distance turned to hints

That our end repeats over

falsehoods we started with.

Lies built on truths

was the mantra and empty promise

Discovering rotten loot

in the fine print of our sonnet.

We may never gain clarity

of why we both chose to lie

But my worth soars freely

broken from our tie.

heartbreak
