Letting Go What You Can't Bear To Leave Behind
Moving on without it
Some lint, a spider, a paperclip
A sock, some crumbs and a broken zip
No luck under this one, no joy in the next
This seat yields frustration, after each check
All bags emptied, each pocket turned out
Can’t find what you’re seeking?
You’re doing without
An early night plan, with a late morning wake
Relying on sweet dreams to keep yourself sate
This isn’t for long, and tonight ends forever
How did you get here?
I thought you were clever
Tomorrow you’ll start the rest of your life
A beautiful one, with absence of strife
Tonight you drip water in a rolled toothpaste tube
Shaking it, praying there’s enough there to use
There’s no sense in crying, and no need to shout
Though that missing thing isn’t what this is about
You’ve waited so long now, and you’re waiting some more
What terrifying excitement will life have in store?
Watery paste swirls down the drain
You stare at the mirror never to reflect you again
Where could it be, you really don’t know
And if you keep looking back, you’ll only go slow
Sigh and let go, let it swirl away to
Maybe this thing isn’t part of New You
