Let Our Hearts Drum

''She is yellow/ pink/ brown''
A child's words announce
''It is what it is''
Says naiveite.
''You’re not from here''
A nation's eyes look ignorantly
''We share ancestors''
It was never our choice, not even theirs.
''I’m black, you’re white''
Distinguished like day and night
''It is what it is''
Yet such contrast does not exist, skin deep.
Born under the same Sun,
Our tones in multitudes are brought out to shine.
From the lips of the land, our green skinned Mother
Teaches us, of one true colour
that speaks our common tongue.
Red, is the colour that sings our love song
The blood that rushes
to blush a kissed cheek
Or, the blood that is spilt
For not turning the other
It is the colour that unifies each beat
Each unique beat, of our Human heart drums!
