Let Me Remain Ordinary

The grace of being unknown

Let me remain ordinary,

Let me stay without a name,

No need for titles or glory,

No need for fortune or fame.

Don’t call me the moon in the sky,

Or a dream that passes by,

Don’t speak of the desert's embrace,

Or the water’s gentle grace.

Your words will sway me,

And steal my soul away,

They'll pull me from myself,

And lead my heart astray.

Your poetry, your verses,

Will bind me, make me weak,

Don’t break my habits,

With every glance you seek.

Don’t call my eyes pure and shy,

Or my silence serene,

Don’t say my heart is untrue,

Or my gestures unseen.

There’s no need to name me,

Or stain my soul with fame,

Let me remain hidden,

In this quiet, gentle frame.

Let me stay ordinary,

Let me stay without a name,

No need for titles or glory,

No need for fortune or fame.

I love the rhythm, is it normal for this poem to make me feel shy? This poem is extraordinarily good, I love the switch in mood at ‘your words will sway me…’ as I begin to read, I wonder if this is a love letter to the self. Words you wish to hear from others but that you tell yourself instead. I had to read it a few more times I can’t get enough, you’ve chosen such soft words and It makes it so unbelievably alluring.

Wow, this is so beautifully low-key! Love how it’s like, “Nah, keep your fame, I’m good as I am.” Simple, humble, and hits just right!😊✨
