Let Me Go!

by: Teresa J. Lavender (A.K.A. Teresa Seavey)

By Teresa LavenderPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Sadness touches –

with tentative fingers

the pain burdens my heart

the smile that never quite reaches the eyes

Let me go!

I did not mean to ask for your compassion

Why do you display it so readily

in your face, your eyes, your smile?

Let me go?

I want no more to need another!

I want no more another to need me!

Everyone, let me go!

I mouth words I feel obliged to say

I do not want sympathy!

I knew the path before I set out

Let me go!

Friendship – so desperately sought –

burns with each passing day

haunts me, stings my eyes, immobilizes me

I did not need to know how good it could be!

It is not mine!

Let me go!

The sinking is much easier

without a lifeline to hold on to

Please, please let me go!

I feel the need to immerse myself

in the loss, the pain

Let me go!
