Let It Come
The first of many Letters to the Moon entries

I have always ached with the perfect beauty of you,
Wept until I could not understand why the tears fell.
.
I have always ached with these words unspoken,
This tender dream of meeting the soul of you someday.
.
I have always pressed my cheek against the cool glass,
Turned teary eyes to the bleak sky above, and wept.
.
I have always known that you are my kin, unwavering
In your quiet compassion while the world tore me apart.
.
I have always wanted to hold you in my hands the way
You have held me so delicately in your endless gaze.
.
I have always heard your silent plea to stay another day.
It was a lullaby, the only way I could learn to fall asleep.
.
I have always dreamt of clutching your sand without
The guise of exploration or discovery or advancement.
.
I have always seen the depth of your compassion,
The way you stand silently stoic while the world weeps.
.
And it is an ugly place sometimes, isn’t it, this little home
We’ve all gone and built with our own monkey hands.
.
I would have wept without possessing knowledge of you.
Would have stared until I collapsed just because I could.
.
I will always keep my hopes tethered to your glowing pallor.
They are safest with you, growing inside your compassion.
.
I will always protect the beauty of your craters and peaks
As you have shielded me from the cruelty of my world.
.
Because we are kin you and I, two of the just placed
Obscenely far away, still roommates in the Milky Way.
.
We are close enough to kiss on wintry nights when the
Night grows clear from the cold and I can see your face.
.
So I kiss you and kiss you well with every thought I have,
Every stroke of ink laid across the barren page of white.
.
I will adore you will every bit of insanity I possess until I
Have left a perfect legacy of you on ink and on page.
