Let it burn

You promised it all, beginning, middle and end,

Painted like the American dream,

But it all was pretend,

Your actions like gasoline laying the path,

Your lies the conspirator lighting the match,

When it all went up in flames,

What did you expect?

I’de inhale all the smoke, and you I’de protect?

You set the fire, you watched it burn,

You smirked and mimicked but you still didn’t learn,

It’s not me, it’s not them, your heart will still yearn,

For the truth and the love that your ego denys, while your soul remains lost…and your heart hears it’s cries

sad poetry
