Wanderings

Leaving it All Behind

I woke up this morning and the fog moved in with the rain

Filled my mug the last thing that I've got to give away

Feels like I've been losing for so long I'm not even in the game

I'm leaving this town with three suitcases and half a brain

Leaving all my love and everything I've ever known

Those Rocky Mountains that I'll always call home

I'm going way down to the land South of Mexico

Don't waste waste your time and just say goodbye

Cause when the engines roar my mind will be in another place and time

Dreaming of those Western nights and cotton candy skies

And that big old moon still shining high in the sky

I'm leaving this town tomorrow with big bright eyes

I'll take one last gaze at some lonesome sunrise

And hope that you sit back and smile and sigh

Cause I ain't got nothing left but these bags full of clothes

I'm going deep into those Southern lands to try my hand again

I've come so far but I still got so far to go

I really liked the contrast between the fog and rain at the start and the open skies later on. It gives the whole piece a sense of movement!
