you will leave and i will cry.
who were we kidding.
we were never going to last.
i will say that i will never let you come close again.
maybe this time i will keep my word.
i will draw wreaths instead of the chains
you tied around my wrists,
i will remember what i want to.
you were good to me.
sometimes.
but then your face would fade in my hands
and my world would disappear like your ghost.
you said you don’t deserve me.
you don’t.
i loved you because i was stubborn.
not because you were worthy.
i hate that i will try to stop you
when you walk out the door
because i need you to leave.
you are killing me
but i am alive because of it.

A heart-wrenching reflection on a toxic love, torn between the pain of holding on and the necessity of letting go.
Absolutely loved and felt this.
What a powerful piece of poetry. Congratulations on Top Story, too.
Excellent work like Annabel Lee
Such a powerful end!
This is....deep. Excellent work, absolutely stunning choice of words
Oh god, this captured that ...well I am trying to articulate it, but see above - so perfectly.
Holy moley, that ending. Fantastic. Congrats on the TS.
great heartfelt poem relatable
Incredible work.
Wow this was very powerful. How often we are in relationships that we feel we deserve when it couldn’t be further from the truth. How we sugarcoat the bad things that happen because we don’t want to admit how bad things really are and the freedom you can feel when you let go of those relationships. Beautiful poem and very powerful words
That ending was breathtakingly beautifully devastating! I adore your writing so much. 'i will draw wreaths instead of the chains you tied around my wrists,' That was my favourite part until I kept reading adn couldn't choose one anymore. Sooo well written.
