Learn To Face Your Ghosts

Are you your public enemy number one

Do you enjoy your time when you’re alone

Do you need people around you all the time,

Are you lost when your plans are cancelled

Do you dread the thought of solo downtime?

***

When you’re alone, can you sit down quietly

And just hang with the thoughts in your head,

Or do you need a distraction, a false escape

Pick up your phone or a book you have read?

***

Are you in a relationship and you’re unhappy

Do you hang with friends that treat you bad,

Do you ring family and friends constantly

Because if you don’t you feel lonely and sad?

***

Do you wake up alone and feel sheer dread

Struggling to get out of bed and face the day,

Do you run at the first sign of confrontation

Or do you put up with it, pretend you’re okay?

***

Do you suffer boredom easily when alone

Needing plans and routines to fill every hour,

Anyone will do for company, it does not matter

Because as soon as you’re alone it’ll turn sour?

***

If you do feel like any of the above, maybe

You need to dig deep to learn who you are,

Look at yourself, learn to face your ghosts

And realise you are a beautiful shining star!

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
