Life’s lantern illuminated my path
In visuals of dancing cherry blossoms,
Swaying to the rhythm of the silent wind
Amid alternating waves of turmoil and glee.
*
“Come hither,” it beckoned with each dawn,
Enveloped in a light bright as the rising sun;
“Speak your truths though the wicked roar,” it urged,
Luring me down discordant paths of unerring strife.
*
Each ray of light emitted by the lantern
Required a leap of faith toward unknown heights
Of alternating mediocrity and strength,
Encompassed in gleams of wisdom’s surging rays.
*
Empathy and compassion leapt to the forefront
Whilst visions of diversity and tolerance entwined
In an intimacy of endearing kindness and devotion,
Conjoining to overflow in tributaries of love’s peace
*
And whilst the world did plummet in its evolution,
My lantern grew to newfound brilliance in its vision,
Its effulgence quickly refurbished long dimmed eyes,
Its sheen and luster polished the fervor of a heart long lost.
*
Thus, hope prevailed, emerging from the lantern’s glow
In shimmers of overwhelming desideratum and purpose,
A realignment of dictates may yet grow and abound
Though ignoble men shake unsound swords and roar.

"My lantern grew to newfound brilliance in its vision, Its effulgence quickly refurbished long dimmed eyes." This line really struck a personal chord. Best of luck to you, Cindy, in the challenge. I really enjoyed this poem.🥰
The interplay of empathy, diversity, and personal growth really gives the lantern a living presence. Beautifully crafted.
When you see the light, it will lead you no matter where you are and going in your life.
What a powerful poem, Cindy, very much in line with how I feel. "Though ignoble men shake unsound swords and roar" - how do we silence them, with our vision of a better world?
I learned another new word from you, desideratum! Loved your poem!
I really felt this one, Cindy. It gave renewed meaning to the strange wanderings of my own life while also reminding me how often life happened to me unawares. It truly is a wakeup call. Powerful stuff. Good luck on the challenge!
