Last Winter
A Sonnet

Anyone familiar with winter
Understands that it could bury our world
We imagine Hell as blazing fire
But into ice and snow we will be hurled

Fire bursts with brilliant energy
Ice is the shell vitality has fled
Bitter cold is life's eldest enemy
When you are frozen, you are truly dead

Trust the ancient, Norse imagination
Its Eddas do foretell our wintry doom
Stories of frosty annihilation
Were woven long ago upon their loom

Heed their terrifying, blizzard warning
We'll be undone by freezing, not warming

Wow! This was gripping! A heck of a poem! Well written!
Marvelously chilling!! Pardon me while I look up "Eddas"... love being educated on here!!
This was far from what I expected when I saw the title. “A sonnet about Winter . . . oh, this should be cute.” I love surprises! Well done, DJ! This is haunting. The only hell worse than being frozen might be having to watch the movie ‘Frozen’ on a continuous loop!
Chilling imagery of winter! Love this! 💌

Yea, I'll just freeze and die, lol. Loved your poem!
