Last Moments of Rebellion
how beautiful it is to be young and energetic...
By Edward Banele ThelaPublished about a year ago • 1 min read

We were running
To the exciting promise
Of a sun quenching retreat
All the boys and I,
Naked under the African sun -
Broad daylight, chasing fun,
Happy at last, out of the city's buzz
Swimming in contaminated water...
And the older kids started Chasing us out
One by one we ran naked
Under the African sky -
Summer sun hurting our eyes.
One of them caught me,
"Why are you swimming
In contaminated water?" He asked
"I am swimming cause it's very hot today,
I am running away from the heat,
I guess!" That's all I said
He said "Grow up!"
But I don't want to grow up.
Being a grown up isn't fun,
I have seen not even one honestly smile.
We were excited,
We were young,
We were happy,
We were free,
We were rebels -
Just a bunch of Rebels.
