Laid Bare

What remains

By Devin JamesPublished 5 years ago • 1 min read

I'd lay my head on a sword for you.

I'd sacrifice everything for one more glance at yesterday.

Of the days I could see myself reflected in your eyes.

Oh the things you do not know.

When I left I cried the entire way to NY.

I've been crying these wasted tears for a year now.

I've got nothing left to give.

I'd die for you.

But could you say the same?

Please just give me a reason to keep on holding on.

Those 3 words I'll never be able to hear.

Though, with my final breath,

those 3 words will be my last.

Whether or not you'd be able to comprehend them.

Is entirely up to you.

As all is laid bare.

And realization hits you.

You'll run to hug me one last time.

As I dissipate out of your unfolding arms.

Please! I don't want my story to end that way.

I want my story to end with you.

For only with you will I find peace.
