Growing up poor

Ragged clothes and empty pockets,

A childhood spent in poverty.

Dreams of riches, out of reach,

But still, we grew strong and free.

We learned to make do with less,

To find joy in simple things.

We played outside till sunset,

And sang with heart that sings.

We knew the value of hard work,

And the weight of responsibility.

We faced challenges head on,

With courage and humility.

Though times were tough, we persevered,

And in our struggles, we found grace.

For in the face of adversity,

We learned to live with dignity and grace.

Though we may have grown up poor,

We were rich in love and family.

And now, as adults, we can look back

With pride on our humble history.

Very nicely written. I know the feeling and the enjoyment of breaking away from it. I lived in Colorado, in a city close to Denver for 12 years. I still miss it.
