La Dryade
In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous. – Aristotle

Through the trees she ran,
Her caramel mane soaring in the wind.
Her soft footsteps barely audible,
As her gentle feet brushed the earth.
The Sun shone proud—
Undisturbed by even one cloud—
Trickling here and there
Through the branches and leaves,
Bringing Heavenly rays to the ageless sea of green,
And warming the Earth, who rejoiced below.
The song of birds,
Each one unique,
Seemed to harmonize
With her delicate wind-chime laugh…
Not a care in the world,
Not a fear in her heart,
She smiled at the endless blue above
Feeling the caressing warmth on her cheek.
Her sonant song filled the air,
Cooing the fauna
And beasts as well,
Bringing Light and Joy
So nor Despair nor Sadness could dwell.
As another day slowly ended—
Painting the land with a soft dim, glow—
The ageless green haven turned from emerald, to rose, to indigo blue,
And the Moon gave the Sun a resting chance
While she guarded the Night…
Through the broad fields she ran,
Her bright eyes to the sky;
Tears filled them
As she gazed at the eternal stars.
She contentedly sighed,
For she knew that yet through darkness,
Light and Joy were by her side,
And even after centuries had passed,
Her gentle song and wind-chime laughter
Still echoed in that ageless, green land…
*Dryade - noun - (in folklore and Greek mythology) a nymph inhabiting a forest or a tree.
